My world shifted on it's axis when I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at age 54. Within a week or so of my diagnosis, I started boxing at a local Rock Steady Boxing Program. When my neurologist started talking to me about brain surgery, I decided I was going to do everything possible to get healthier before considering this option. I stepped up my workouts even more, started seeing a functional medicine doctor and made some significant nutritional changes. Today, my faith in God is stronger than it has ever been, I am a certified Rock Steady Boxing coach, I am a Parkinson's ambassador and I am healthier than I have ever been except for this one little thing...Parkinson's Disease. It is what I have, not who I am.
In 2018, after seeing that people in my area were continually getting diagnosed and not knowing where to turn, I started PD Buzz, a site for people with PD in Orange County, CA to find local resources. You can find support groups, fitness classes, educational and social events, and specialists. More recently, we have started to expand PD Buzz to other areas. It is my passion project to not have anyone go through Parkinson's alone.
Fear can be what we feel, but brave is what we do. ~Ann Voskamp
